Unemployment down citywide, lowest level since 2006
New York City’s unemployment rate has reached its lowest level since 2006, according to numbers released by the New York State Department of Labor on Thursday, November 19.
Unemployment citywide has dropped a full four tenths of a percentage point since last month, according to the numbers, going from 5.2 percent to 4.8 percent, and putting it below the national unemployment rate for the first time since June, 2011.
Furthermore, the rate is down from 6.6 percent this time last year, and 8.1 percent in December, 2013, representing a 3.3 percentage point decrease in unemployment since Mayor Bill de Blasio took office.
