The upsides to buying a home are in the spotlight on this month’s “Victoria’s Stars,” as host and co-publisher of this paper, Victoria Schneps, sits down with United Mortgage Corporation Branch Manager Emanuel Catechis and his colleague Donald Chmela, senior loan originator, to discuss everything you need to know about mortgages and reverse mortgages.

“Once again I am delighted to bring the stars of our community to our viewers,” said Schneps. “Each one is unique in what they contribute through their power and passionate work.”

Chmela – in the mortgage business for more than 12 years – and Catechis – in the mortgage business for 13 years and in the financial business for more than 20, — are certainly experts in their field.

On the map since 1991, United Mortgage has gained traction in the last five years, according to Catechis, something Schneps and the duo agreed can be attributed to the talented team’s surplus of “young energy.”

“We’ve had a very successful team so we’ve been able to take it to the next level,” said the branch manager, noting that, since a brief stall in 2008, buying opportunities have thankfully been on a steady rise.

“During 2007 and early 2008, things were kind of put on the back burner – rates were still low but the feeling and the attitude toward purchasing homes were very meek,” Catechis explained. “In late 2008, 2009, that’s when you started seeing more purchasing, little by little.”

“Now people are feeling a little more comfortable,” Catechis noted. “Rates are near the 50-year lows and the sentiments are pretty great.”

“You both have an informed perspective,” remarked Schneps, before digging a little deeper into the many opportunities for first-time homebuyers, and the ins and outs of everything from mortgages to reverse mortgages.
