Last season, the team had its best record in years, winning 47 games before losing in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs against the Washington Capitals in a seven-game series.

The first ever regular season game at its new digs will be on Friday, October 9 at 7:30 p.m. against the reigning Stanley Cup champions, the Chicago Blackhawks.

“Opening night for the Islanders at Barclays Center represents an historic event for Brooklyn,” said Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark. “We are proud to welcome the Islanders to their new home and to host the first-ever regular season NHL game in the borough. There’s great anticipation for the team’s inaugural season and we are ready to offer fans a memorable experience on opening night.”

Another date fans of the orange and blue can look forward to is the team’s first meeting with its crosstown rival at its new state-of-the-art digs. The Islanders take on the New York Rangers on Wednesday, December 2.

Fans old and new will be able to get a taste of their favorite hockey team before opening night. The Islanders’ first pre-season game is on Monday, September 21 against the Philadelphia Flyers.

It was announced on October 24, 2012 that the team would be making the move to the Barclay Center for the start of the 2015-16 season. The lease will keep the Islanders in Brooklyn until 2040.

For over four decades, the New York Islanders called Long Island’s Nassau Coliseum home. Memorable seasons there included four consecutive Stanley Cup championships from 1980-1983.
