ON THIS DAY in 1914, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Brooklyn Militia Ready for War Call.”
The article focused on a colonel announcing preparations in the case of a call to battle.
“Col. John H. Foote, commanding the Fourteenth Regiment, which did most of the fighting for Brooklyn among the militia regiments in the Civil War, spoke enthusiastically of the preparedness of his command this morning when informed of the ominous state of affairs in relation to Mexico,” the Eagle reported.
