If you examine all of the tall buildings around Borough Hall, it becomes clear that the primary industry downtown is the administration of justice. Federal, state and city courts are within walking distance of each other, and the primary engines of that industry, criminal defense lawyers, are among the pillars of that entire edifice.

Last weekend, the Kings County Criminal Bar Association (KCCBA) held its annual dinner at Giando on the Water at the edge of Williamsburg. Newly elected President Michael C. Farkas presided over one of the most successful annual dinners to date, and brought with him the support and networking power that only a second-generation leader can summon.

Son of George Farkas, a former president of KCCBA, Michael remembers that he always knew he wanted to become a lawyer. Indeed, he grew up visiting bar association meetings and assisting his father.

Many attorneys called last Saturday’s annual dinner “the most successful in the history of KCCBA.”

“I cannot remember another completely sold-out affair … people were literally begging to get on the waiting list,” one of the committee members said.

“I am proud and glad that the hard work of Michael’s team paid off,” said George Farkas. “And I think, if I may bring to mind the words of the immortal Frank Sinatra, ‘the best is yet to come’…”

After welcoming remarks by MICHAEL FARKAS, Kings County District Attorney KENNETH THOMPSON presented the Robert N. Kaye Memorial Award to ERIC GONZALEZ, Esq. The non-judicial Court Employee Award was presented by Hon. JOHN LEVENTHAL to KAREN BOYD GILLEN.

SCOTT DAVIS presented the Person of the Year Award to WAYNE C. BODDEN.

Immediate Past President JAY H. SCHWITZMAN presented the Gustin L. Reichbach Judicial Recognition Award to HON. MICHAEL J. YAVINSKY.
