Stepdad charged in death of three-year-old

Kelsey Smith, 20, is being charged with second-degree murder in the beating death of three-year-old Jeida Torres on October 18 in Bushwick, announced Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson.

Smith allegedly beat Torres for soiling her pants, according to her five-year-old brother Andrew, who was also assaulted, reportedly while trying to defend his sister. Smith also faces charges of assault and child endangerment.
