NYPD Commissioner William Bratton admitted that “there are some [police officers] who should not be here” and are “not the right fit at the NYPD in 2014,” during remarks made to high-ranking police leadership during an executive workshop on Thursday, October 2.

“There are a few,” he said, “who just don’t get it [and] don’t understand that when they take that oath of office and put that shield on, that they commit to constitutional policing, respectful policing, compassionate policing.”

Bratton’s comments come as the NYPD faces renewed criticism following a series of videotaped deaths and injuries to citizens during confrontations with police in Brooklyn and Staten Island.
