Hill Country College Music Series, a music contest that gives local college roots, Americana and alt-country bands the opportunity to play, will take place at Willoughby Plaza, kicking off on Sept. 26.

Local participating colleges are canvasing student musicians to perform at the Willoughby Plaza for the Friday night concert series — one act from each school will be selected to perform.  From that group, a grand prize winner will be selected by a Hill Country judge for a headlining show later this fall.

“It is our pleasure to extend an offer for student musicians to play as part of the Hill Country College Concert Series this autumn,” says Jessie Scott, director of Hill Country Live. “We are excited to see the variety and energy they will bring to the stage at Willoughby Plaza.”

Hill Country is offering a 10 percent food and drinks discount to all students with ID who attend any of the events to cheer on their college’s band.

Other Hill Country highlights include a performance on Sept. 27 by the Slim Kings, featuring drummer Liberty DeVitto, who spent more than three decades playing on seminal records for and performing with Billy Joel; and an Oct. 18 performance by alt-country songwriter Chris Knight.

Hill Country is curated by music business veteran Jessie Scott and is sponsored by Hill Country Live Brooklyn and Downtown Brooklyn Partnership.
