Eye care office opens on Third Avenue
On Wednesday, September 10, Specialized Eye Care Of Bay Ridge cut the ribbon on its new office, at Third Avenue and 88th Street.
One of the newest ophthalmic practices in the neighborhood, it has one of the richest histories of any medical practice in the area.
Dr. Thomas Conrad Aiello and Dr. Adam Bennett Pass have combined their practices into a state-of-the-art model of 21st century healthcare delivery. Both are second generation ophthalmologists who have known each other since their days at Poly Prep in the 1970s and ‘80s. Drs. Michael and Maria Aiello, and Dr. Sheldon Pass established ophthalmology practices in the neighborhood as far back as the late 1960s. It was only a natural progression that their sons should join forces in the new healthcare environment.
Dr. Aiello is particularly skilled in refractive surgery and premium implant cataract microsurgery. Dr. Pass is fellowship trained in neuro-ophthalmology, performs cataract surgery, regularly assists in retinal surgical procedures, and enjoys seeing patients in pediatric, adult and senior citizen age groups. Both are board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and have been recertified numerous times.
Their brand new facility is located in the space formerly occupied by The Home Reporter. There are four examination lanes, and a diagnostic testing room incorporating the latest ocular imaging equipment available anywhere today. An electronic medical record system has been instituted allowing both doctors to know the relevant histories of all their patients and allowing for coverage of patients in emergency situations should either doctor be temporarily unavailable.
The office is open six days a week with appointment availability from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. depending on the day. Most health insurance plans are accepted for ophthalmologic services. A licensed optician is available on premises on Mondays, and Wednesday through Saturday.
