Between Monday, September 8 and Monday, September 15, the 72nd Precinct received reports of four robberies, one grand larceny and one felony assault. The 72nd Precinct serves Sunset Park, Greenwood Heights and South Park Slope.

PARK CHASE

On Saturday, September 14 at around 8:25 p.m., police arrested a 19-year-old man and recovered jewelry that had allegedly been stolen from a couple walking near the Sunset Park Recreation Center, police said. The victims told cops that the suspect came from behind and pushed the man to the ground, stole his gold chains and a watch, and then injured the woman’s hand when she called 9-1-1 for help.

A helicopter and foot search ensued, with the helicopter lights aiding officers in their canvass. The suspect was found a few blocks south on Fifth Avenue, outside a local restaurant, and was positively ID’d by the victims.

COMPUTER BAGGED

A light-skinned Hispanic male allegedly grabbed a computer bag of electronics and $1,226 in cash from a 47-year-old Asian man walking near Sixth Avenue and 61st Street at around 1:40 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9, said police. The suspect allegedly fled on a bicycle northbound towards Sixth Avenue.

STACKED AND SCAMMED

A 20-year-old Hispanic man told cops that two men tricked him out of $3,500 in cash after offering to split a stack of money with him if he gave them money from his bank account, but that the men only gave him $148 in return before fleeing on foot at around 1 p.m. near Fifth Avenue and 53rd Street.

TEEN KNIFING

A 16-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly slashing a 17-year-old teen in the upper right arm during a game of handball inside a playground on 53rd Street between First and Second Avenues at around 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9, said police. The knife was not recovered and the victim received 15 stitches at the hospital.

CHOKED AND ROBBED

Police are searching for a dark-skinned Hispanic male weighing around 130 pounds and standing approximately five-feet-six-inches tall, for allegedly being one of two suspects who pushed a woman against a car, put her in a chokehold and then stole her iPhone. The incident occurred at around 8:20 p.m. on Saturday, September 13 in front of a home on 41st Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, said police. The suspects fled in opposite directions on 41st Street.

TRIPLE THREAT

A 36-year-old man told police that three Asian men stole $3,000 in cash from him after he exited a taxi at Seventh Avenue and 51st Street and walked towards Eighth Avenue at around 2:10 a.m. on Monday, September 15. The victim sustained swelling to the forehead.
