Etiquette Boss: Playing their business cards right
BUSINESS CARDS AND COLLEGE GRADS: Thousands of college graduates are now interviewing for jobs, and in the process, will be receiving many business cards. I thought this would be a good time to remind them of business card protocols.
A business card is much more than a means of contact. It is also a brief record of what that individual has achieved thus far in life, and it should be acknowledged as such. Therefore, the first rule is to look at the card to see what information it holds about the individual.
Secondly, comment on something the card reveals, even if it is simply, “Nice card. Thank you.” Thirdly, if you are seated at a desk or table when the card is presented, place the card on the table and retrieve it as you rise to leave.
