Bay Ridge is THE place to be on Friday night as the first of four Summer Stroll on 3rd events takes place.

Third Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic from Bay Ridge Avenue to 80th Street from 6 to 10 p.m. so that a pedestrian mall can be created and people can feel free to stretch their legs, enjoy live music, hunt for bargains at a leisurely pace and sip cappuccinos in outdoor cafes.

Opera companies, folk singers, rock and rollers and dance troupes will be out on the sidewalk to entertain pedestrians.

And organizers are promising a variety of activities to keep pedestrians entertained.

Here’s a rundown of some of the activities planned. At Circles Café, 6901 Third Ave., there will be live music. The Fire Department of New York will have its educational Smoke House stationed in front of 6919 Third Ave. Consentino Fish Market, 6922 Third Ave., will have a raw bar. You will find live music and outdoor patio seating at the Yellow Hook Grille, 7001 Third Ave.

The Vicky Simegiatos Dance Co. will perform in front of 7110 Third Ave. Burger Bistro, 7217A Third Ave. will have live music and outdoor seating. The New York City Department of Environmental Protection will have a water station in front of 7210 Third Ave. Vesuvio’s Restaurant, 7303 Third Ave., will offer outdoor seating and music by the Bella Vocce Singers. Longbow Pub, 7316 Third Ave., will have an outdoor café.

Brooklyn Dance, 7411 Third Ave., will have performances. Tanoreen, 7523 Third Ave., will have outdoor seating. The Salty Dog, 7509 Third Ave., will have outdoor seating and music.

The Bay Ridge Ambulance Volunteer Organization will have its headquarters outside 7524 Third Ave.

Dimensions on Stage, 7601 Third Ave., will perform dances. Debra Rose Beauty Essentials, 7622 Third Ave. will host a performance by the Narrows Community Theater. Debra Capone, owner of Debra Rose Beauty Essentials, is also sponsoring a dog talent show.

There will be an outdoor art gallery in front of the Greenhouse Café, 7715 Third Ave., co-sponsored by Gallery 364. Greenhouse Café will also have outdoor seating and music.

Norma’s Arts and Crafts Supplies, 7813 Third Ave., will be hosting a local photographer. Sally & George’s Restaurant, 7809 Third Ave., will be offering live entertainment and outdoor seating.

What’s a Summer Stroll without a scavenger hunt? The sponsors have organized one for kids and adults alike. Pick up information at the scavenger hunt table on Third Avenue and 79th Street. There are lots of prizes to be won!

The Pour House, 7901 Third Ave., will have outdoor seating and music. H.I.T. Factory, 7918 Third Ave., will offer demonstrations and entertainment.

There will be four Summer Stroll events this year. The second event, to take place on Friday, July 25, will also run from Bay Ridge Avenue to 80th Street. On Aug. 8 and 15, the event moves to the southern end of the avenue. The blocks located between 80th and 90th Streets will get their turn to host the Summer Stroll.

The Merchants of Third Avenue, a business organization representing store owners on the avenue, is working with state Sen. Marty Golden (R-C-Bay Ridge-southwest Brooklyn) and Councilman Vincent Gentile (D-Bay Ridge-Dyker Heights-Bensonhurst) to sponsor the Third Annual Summer Stroll on 3rd event.

Summer Stroll is run under the auspices of the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) and is part of that agency’s Weekend Walks program, a citywide endeavor designed to open up the streets to pedestrians.
