Garbage truck crashes through Brooklyn deli, eight injured

Police say eight people suffered minor injuries overnight when a garbage truck crashed through the wall of a Brooklyn deli.
It happened around 2:10 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Dekalb and Bedford avenues.
Police say the accident occurred when a Metropolitan Recycling truck swerved to avoid a sedan that ran a red light.
The owner of Gourmet Deli, Mohamed Ali, tells the Daily News that his two cousins were working in the store at the time.
Fortunately, he says, they were on the opposite from where the truck hit.
The victims included the drivers of both vehicles. They were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Department of Buildings and the Office of Emergency Management will assess the structural stability of the building.
