Students at Saint Patrick Catholic Academy are ending their school year in style, New York style that is!

Kids at the Bay Ridge school recently put on a show that would put anyone in a “New York State of Mind,” as Billy Joel would say.

The students paid a musical tribute to various singers and songwriters associated with the Big Apple, singing songs and performing sketches highlighting the artists’ ties to New York.

Featuring a cast of students of all ages, the show featured lively renditions of popular songs written by New York artists, as well as songs and sketches that looked back at groundbreaking musical events, like The Beatles’ first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show on Feb. 9, 1964 and the Blues Brothers’ debut on Saturday Night Live in 1978.

The students and parents in the audience went wild over the St. Patrick version of The Beatles!

Other performances included the Billy Joel classics “Piano Man” and “Uptown Girl,” Barbra Streisand’s “Don’t Rain on My Parade” and Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” and “Applause.”

A brief narration accompanied each number detailing the artist’s ties to New York.

The show also included a salute to that quintessential New York City institution, the Rockettes, as well as selections from the Broadway shows “Newsies” and “42nd Street.”

For the grand finale, the students performed “Empire State of Mind” written by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys.
