Brooklyn Nets’ Jason Collins named one of TIME’s 100 most influential people
Brooklyn Nets forward Jason Collins, the first openly gay player in one of the four major American sports, has been named to TIME magazine’s annual list of the world’s 100 most influential people.
In a short piece written by Chelsea Clinton, his classmate at Stanford University, Clinton said, “Jason’s kindness and fierceness alike derive from that word too often bandied about and too rarely true: integrity.”
Collins has inspired athletes from other pro and college sports to come out as well, which is one of the reasons Clinton called him “a leader and an inspiration.”
