First Spring Gala at P.S. 127 a success
After hosting standard bake sales, P.S. 127 held its first Spring Gala on Thursday, March 20, raising money for much-needed technology, including SmartBoards and laptops.Parent Teacher Association Co-President Jenn Reinhart said they are still tallying the amount of money raised from the evening and they believe the final number is between $15,000 and $17,000.Administrators, parents, teachers, crossing guards, grandparents and even friends from other schools came together to partake in this event, which was attended by more than 180 people, according to parent Maureen Landers.The main focus was the selling of the raffles. The raffles were divided into three different levels — Bronze, Silver and Gold — depending on how much one spent. Winners won televisions, iPads, sports tickets and gift certificates. Local businesses, such as restaurants and hair salons, donated goods and services to the raffle prizes as well.The whole community came together, Landers said. I won an iPad, and then my husband went on a business trip and took it, so I havent even seen it since.And, P.S. 127 shared the bounty. Funds raised by auctioning off a Relay for Life Basket were donated to Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society.The Spring Gala was held at the Rex Manor. P.S. 127, the McKinley Park School is a small school by New York City standards. It educates over 500 students, who speak 23 different languages and who have roots in more than 55 countries.
