Police Commissioner William Bratton is calling building conditions in many of New York City’s aging precinct stations “deplorable.”

Bratton made the remark on Friday while testifying at a City Council hearing.

Bratton told council members that many of the police stations in the city’s 76 precincts are in desperate need of plumbing, electrical and other upgrades after “a century of neglect.” He said others lack adequate air conditioning.

But Bratton also said budget constraints will prevent the work from happening anytime soon.
