Adams to host Brooklyn Economic Exchange

Will hold breakfast meetings with business leaders

How about some business tips with your bacon and eggs?

Borough President Eric Adams and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce are teaming up to start a new program to promote economic growth in Brooklyn.

In partnership with the chamber, Adams will hold quarterly meetings over breakfast with the borough’s business leaders under a program called the Brooklyn Economic Exchange.

The first power breakfast will take place on March 18 at Borough Hall.

The guests will include representatives from business improvement districts (BIDs), neighborhood associations, industry leaders and community leaders. The discussions will focus on Brooklyn’s economic climate, real estate development, and issues affecting small businesses.

The meetings will provide participants with the opportunity to start a conversation with political leaders from Brooklyn and across New York, according to Adams, who said it will also give advocates a chance to voice their concerns about what is happening in Brooklyn neighborhoods.

“Business is booming in Brooklyn like never before, and to make sure we’re moving forward with development in a way that positively impacts every neighborhood, we need to coordinate that growth,” Adams said.

The Brooklyn Economic Exchange is part of Adams’s “One Brooklyn” vision for the borough, outlined by him at his inauguration in January. News 12 Brooklyn reported that in his inaugural address, the borough president said his goal is to grow the Brooklyn’s economy and improve the quality of life for residents in all communities.

“This Brooklyn Economic Exchange breakfast series will foster that necessary coordination in our borough, ensuring that developers work with the needs of community residents and business owners. We’ll be gathering input from many voices, including those that might not usually involve themselves in business dialogues,” Adams said.

“The Brooklyn Economic Exchange brings all the major players in the borough under one tent so that we can discuss business and economic development issues in a meaningful way,” said Carlo Scissura, president and CEO of the chamber.

The goal is job growth for Brooklyn, according to Scissura. “It is important to engage the various BIDs and community leaders with our elected officials so that Brooklyn can continue to grow jobs and businesses as well as infrastructure improvements and development,” he said.

Future meetings of the Brooklyn Economic Exchange will take place in June, September and December.

The sessions will feature keynote speakers from city government and will include breakout sessions and panel discussions.
