Good morning. Today is the 352nd day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of Dec. 18, 1843, carried a letter from P.T. Barnum, proprietor of the American Museum in Manhattan, about an earlier story concerning a male visitor’s attempt to engage in an “improper familiarity” with a female Brooklyn visitor. Barnum protested that there were security guards in each hall within the museum on the lookout for breaches of the rules and regulations, although he pointed out that they would not interfere in what appeared to be a casual conversation. He further pointed out if the female visitor felt uncomfortable complaining to the male guards, she could have spoken to the “lady ticket-taker.” The museum burned down in 1865, and Barnum then founded his famous circus.

Well-known people who were born today include singer Christina Aguilera, actor Brad Pitt (“Moneyball,” “Babel”), guitarist-singer Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, filmmaker Steven Spielberg (“Schindler’s List,” “Saving Private Ryan,” “Jurassic Park,” “Jaws”) and former basketball player Charles Oakley.
