Times Warner/CBS blackout temporarily lifted to air NYC debates

Time Warner Cable and CBS have agreed to temporarily lift the blackout on CBS so New Yorkers can catch the debates in the last weeks of the Democratic races for mayor and comptroller.

The agreement means the city comptroller debate will air live at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The blackout began Aug. 2 over how much Time Warner Cable Inc. pays for CBS programming.

Campaign Finance Board Chairman Joseph Parkes said Wednesday he is pleased the companies have set aside their differences so New Yorkers can view the debates.

If the companies’ dispute isn’t resolved soon, they’ve also agreed to lift the blackout for the CBS Republican mayoral debates on Aug. 28 and a potential runoff debate between the Democratic mayoral candidates.
