Blaze destroys 11th Avenue businesses

A large fire destroyed five businesses along Eleventh Avenue near 62nd Street on Monday, June 10.

A spokesperson for the Fire Department told this paper that the fire broke out at 11:51 p.m., increased to a two-alarm fire at 12:05 a.m., and became a three-alarm fire at 12:14 a.m. before it was put under control at 1:29 a.m.

“It took a long time to fight the fire,” the spokesperson said, adding that three firefighters suffered minor injuries and were taken to Maimonides Medical Center.

The blaze destroyed a dry cleaners, convenience store, Chinese take-out restaurant, pharmacy and laundromat located between 62nd and 63rd Streets.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
