Fatal accident leaves man dead at Flatbush and Fourth Avenues
A car accident on Flatbush Avenue between Fourth and Fifth Avenues left a man dead on Wednesday, April 3, emergency responders said.
According to police, the pedestrian — a man in his 40s — was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 12:30 p.m.. The driver of the tractor trailer that hit him stayed at at the scene, said witnesses. Also on the scene was the NYPD’s Accident Investigation Squad, which is still investigating.
The man was said to have been walking between parked cars into the street when he was hit by the tractor trailer traveling northbound on Flatbush Avenue.
Traffic was snarled for hours after the accident, into and past the evening rush hour. Cars waited for miles, even across the Manhattan Bridge, with all southbound Flatbush Avenue traffic diverted down Fourth Avenue — with motorists getting a glimpse of the victim’s covered body under a bloody sheet even after 6 p.m.
The NYPD reports that the investigation is ongoing.
