The historic Carroll Street Bridge over the Gowanus Canal, one of only four retractable bridges in the U.S., will be repaired starting around April 1, a development that will require the complete closure of the bridge to cars, bicycles and pedestrians. The landmark bridge was built in 1888, and rolls back on wheels set on steel rails. Repairs are expected to be finished in August. Photo by Flickr user Uberzombie
