Time may finally be running out for Long Island College Hospital.

A spokesman for State University of New York chairman Carl McCall told the Daily News that SUNY trustees have discussed closing the hospital, the newspaper reported late Wednesday night.

The SUNY board “has discussed the possibility of closing LICH,” SUNY spokesman David Doyle said in an email, the NY Times reported.

Doyle says the recommendation to close the hospital came from Downstate management, the Daily News reported

The 150-year-old hospital in Cobble Hill is part of the financially-distressed SUNY Downstate Medical Center and is formally called University Hospital of Brooklyn at Long Island College Hospital.

State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office released a report last week saying that Downstate’s 2011 purchase of Long Island College Hospital contributed to its money problems.

Developing story. More later on Thursday.
