Holiday fairs across Brooklyn this weekend

The holiday shopping season is officially in full swing. For those who like to browse handmade crafts, listen to music and drink hot cider, nothing beats a holiday crafts market. This weekend a number of great fairs and craft parties are taking place across Brooklyn. Here’s a list of some of them:

Winter Festival and Artisan Craft Fair at Brooklyn Friends School: This popular holiday shopping event combined with a children’s carnival takes place on Saturday December 1, 10:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. More than 40 vendors line the downstairs craft floor, while other floors include food, activities for kids, book sale, skateboard demo, plant sale and more. Brooklyn Friends is on Pearl Street in Downtown Brooklyn near the Marriott. Details at

P.S. 8 Holiday Craft Fair: This family annual fundraising event on December 1 is designed to bring the P.S. 8 community in Brooklyn Heights together for an afternoon of crafting, shopping and eating. A P.S. 8 Crafts Lab will offer how-to demonstrations. The school is located at 37 Hicks Street.  More at

Brooklyn Holiday Book Fair: This event features “rare and extraordinary books” from booksellers from across Brooklyn, and takes place December 1, from noon – 6 p.m.  Presented by the Old Stone House and Honey and Wax Booksellers, there will be a reading by a surprise Brooklyn lit notable of a rare first edition of The Gift of the Magi. Holiday Handmade Cavalcade: Here’s a two day show of items crafted by the talented craftspeople on the “Etsy NY Team” December 1 and 2, 11 – 6 p.m. at The Space, 50 North 3rd Street in Williamsburg. More at

Hannah Senesh Community Day School, 342 Smith Street, will celebrate the holiday with a crafts party for children ages 2-10 on Sunday, December 2, from 1 to 4 p.m. Workshops include holiday card making, Hanukkah mobiles, a print workshop, food decorating, pottery, wire sculpture dreidles (spinning tops), puppet and mask making, and mosaic tile. There is a $5 fee per child. More at

The Brooklyn Night Bazaar: This event combines a holiday fair with delicious food vendors, brewers, artists and performers. This year’s Bazaar is taking place every Friday and Saturday until December 22, from 6 p.m. to midnight. The Bazaar takes place at 45 N. 5th Street in Williamsburg. More at

Brooklyn Flea’s Gifted Holiday Market: More than 100 unique vendors of crafts, arts and antiques (plus food) gather in the great hall of 1 Hanson Place (the Williamsburg Bank Building) in Fort Green on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. through December 23. More at

More holiday fairs take place on weekends leading up to Christmas. These include:

P.S. 321’s Holiday Shop takes place on Saturday, December 8 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., at 180 7th Avenue in Park Slope. Lots of artisanal vendors, arts & crafts, hair braiding. More at

3rd Ward’s Handmade Holiday Craft Fair features unique crafts items from jewelry to art. The fair takes place on Saturday, December 15, from noon to 6 p.m. More details at

South Slope Holiday Craft Fair Benefiting PS 10: This event features artists, artisans and craftspeople along with scrumptious snacks from local eateries; a raffle and fun activities for kids. The fair takes place from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. at 511 Seventh Avenue. More at

Brooklyn Craft Central Holiday Market: Different vendors each weekend (December 15-16 and December 22-23) so come twice. Handpicked local designers and food vendors, from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Littlefield Art Space, 622 Degraw Street. See
