Mayor Michael Bloomberg confirmed today that all city public schools will be closed to students for the rest of the week, on Thursday and Friday, November 1-2.

However, that only applies to students. Faculty, staff, and administrators only get Thursday off, and MUST report to work on Friday.

This would mark five consecutive days of cancelled classes for the school year. Schools are required to have 180 instructional days per school year. It is not yet known whether the school year will be lengthened or which holiday breaks will be shortened to make up for the loss.

On the college level, the City University of New York system has canceled ALL classes at all CUNY schools for Thursday, November 1.

On the other end of the age spectrum, senior services will resume on Thursday, with 125 of 250 senior centers will be open by then.
