Brooklyn Book Festival, AT&T launch free `app’

The Brooklyn Book Festival and AT&T have announced the launch of a free iPhone and Android-compatible “app” that will provide festival-goers and book lovers with everything from author biographies and their social media links to schedules, lineups, maps, directions and other information.

Users will also be able to use the app to vote for their AT&T Fan Fave, in which the winning authors will receive a cash prize to donate to their favorite charity.

Apple product users will be able to search for “Brooklyn Book Festival” in the App Store and download the app for their smartphones and tablets; Android customers can download from Google Play.

“Through this collaboration, AT&T is excited to help take the Brooklyn Book Festival to the next level and expand it to an even wider audience,” said Marissa Shorenstein, president of AT&T New York. “Brooklyn has become the hub of technology for the city and Brooklyn is also the hub of the literary community.”

“We are thrilled that, through the generous support of AT&T, the Brooklyn Book Festival is able to provide is able to provide advance info about the festival and updates to the 40,000 visitors we’re expecting this year with instant access to everything the festival has to offer,” said Borough President Marty Markowitz.

On Sunday, Sept. 23, more than 280 authors and other participants  will join bibliophiles, booksellers and literary organizations on 14 stages at Borough Hall, Columbus Park, St. Francis College, the Brooklyn Heights Public Library, Brooklyn Law School, the Brooklyn Historical Society and St. Ann & The Holy Trinity Church.

The 2012 Brooklyn Book Festival is presented by Brooklyn Tourism and the Brooklyn Literary Council, and is supported by AT&T.
