‘Intrepid’ teens impressed by visit to Brooklyn Borough Hall
High school students may seem a fairly blasé bunch, but a recent visit to meet Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz at Borough Hall made a big impression on students from the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum’s Leadership Institute for Today and Tomorrow (LIFTT) enrichment program.
The teens heard from Markowitz himself about his life in politics, the role of a borough president, and, of course, the advantages of living in Brooklyn.
“BP Markowitz told me that if you want something in life, you should strive for it and never let anyone tell you that you can’t do something,” said Nayab Shayid, a rising senior at Sheepshead Bay High School, via email. “He said that if you believe in yourself and you work hard for your goals, you will succeed. This was especially significant for me because it made me become independent of mind in deciding whether or not I am good enough for achieving my goals.”
