Thousands of Ridgeites gathered at the waterfront on Sunday, June 3 to watch the Space Shuttle Enterprise pass underneath the Verrazano Bridge as it made its way to Port Elizabeth, New Jersey.

The shuttle left John F. Kennedy International Airport on a barge at 7:45 a.m., floated underneath the Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge at 3:30 p.m. and passed by Coney Island about an hour later.

Arriving a little later than scheduled, the Enterprise passed under the Verrazano Bridge at about 5:45 p.m. and many Ridgeites captured the historic moment.

The shuttle then pulled into a dock at Port Elizabeth, New Jersey, where it stayed until June 5 when it made its final trip along the Hudson to the Intrepid.
