POLICE BEAT: 68 and 72 Precinct Blotter

Between Sunday, April 15 and Sunday, April 22, the 68th Precinct, serving Bay Ridge, Fort Hamilton and Dyker Heights, received reports of four grand larcenies and one robbery.

AN UNFRUITFUL TRIP

A 37-year-old female had her purse stolen while shopping at a fruit and vegetable store on Sunday, April 22 at 6 p.m. She said she put down her Coach purse, containing a Droid cellphone, credit cards, ID, her Social Security card, keys to a pharmacy and a Coach wallet, to grab some vegetables, and when she reached back it was gone.

BAD NIGHT OUT

While out at Cebu Restaurant just after midnight on Saturday, April 21, a 50-year-old white female left her Dooney & Burke bag on a chair unattended. She did not see anyone take the purse, containing an iPhone 4G, Bulgari glasses, credit cards, ID, Yankee tickets and envelopes containing cash, but was unable to find it. The general manager of the restaurant will provide police with a copy of surveillance video.

COLOGNE CAPER

Surveillance video shows two black males removing 58 bottles of assorted cologne from the Walgreen’s Pharmacy on Third Avenue on Wednesday, April 18 around 10:30 p.m. The items were worth $2,308.

SUBWAY STEAL

Police are searching for a 25-year-old black male, 6’ with close cut hair, wearing a black sweatshirt and a black baseball hat, and another male who allegedly robbed a 22-year-old white female at knifepoint while on a northbound R train during the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 18.

The victim says she boarded a train at 95th Street with the two perps and shortly after it left the station, one displayed a knife and demanded her property. At the 86th Street station, the two perps fled the train, with the victim’s MacBook, iPhone, camera, credit and debit cards, driver’s license, MetroCard and $300 in cash. The victim stayed on the train until 59th Street, where police were called. A track of the iPhone and iCloud was negative.

WALLET MISHAP

A night out at 93 Lounge was less than enjoyable for a 23-year-old black Hispanic female, who reported to police that, during the early morning hours of Sunday, April 15, her wallet, containing credit cards, ID, $80 in cash and a MetroCard, was pulled from her pocket by a group engaged in a fight as they moved past her

She and her friend scoured the place, including looking in garbage pails, in an attempt to find her possessions. She was contacted two days later by the lounge’s owner, who said the wallet had been found in the men’s bathroom; however, one credit card had been removed and used by an unknown person. There is no surveillance video available.

72nd Precinct

The 72nd Precinct, which serves Sunset Park, Greenwood Heights, Windsor Terrace and South Park Slope, received reports of four assaults and one gambling promotion between Thursday, April 19 and Monday, April 23. There was a dramatic decline in robberies and petit larcenies from last week (Wednesday, April 11 through Monday, April 16).

MAHJONGG MADNESS

A 41-year-old Asian woman was arrested on the afternoon of Friday, April 20 for running a Mahjongg gambling ring out of her Eighth Avenue apartment.

Police received a call about a dispute involving a firearm at the location at 1:45 p.m. When they arrived, they found gambling tables complete with dice, playing cards and Mahjongg tiles. Signs on the wall explained that tips are split with the house after every game. An undisclosed amount of money was removed from the tables as evidence.

PUNCHY PUNK

Police arrested a 26-year-old Asian man during the early morning hours of Monday, April 23 for punching a 23-year-old Asian male in the face opposite on 61st Street near Seventh Avenue.

MIDAFTERNOON MELEE

Five people were arrested on Thursday, April 19 on the corner of Fourth Avenue and 54th Street for being involved in a street brawl that traveled down the block.

A 42-year-old white Hispanic male got into an argument with a 29-year old Hispanic white male, a 25-year-old white male, an 18-year-old Hispanic white male and a 43-year-old Hispanic white male. Things got heated and the 42-year-old was hit with a baseball bat by an unknown white Hispanic male wearing a blue shirt, who causing injury to the head before fleeing.

Shortly after, the victim injured the 25-year-old in the forearm and stabbed the 18-year-old in the left underarm on the corner of Third Avenue and 54th Street. He was arrested after being treated at Lutheran Medical Center.
