Brooklyn Judge Sentences Hitman to Only Three More Years

CADMAN PLAZA EAST (AP) — A former captain of the Bonanno crime family has been sentenced in Brooklyn to 10 years in prison for his role in a pair of mob hits, but he could be out in less than two years.

Dominick Cicale, 44, was a central witness at the trials of mob boss Vinny “Gorgeous” Basciano. His testimony helped put Basciano behind bars for life and helped lead to the decimation of the Bonanno crime family.

U.S. District Court Judge Nicholas Garaufis gave Cicale credit for the seven years he has already served. The former Basciano protege had faced life in prison.

He pleaded guilty to murdering mob associate Randolph Pizzolo on a Brooklyn street at Basciano’s orders and killing a Bronx junkie, Frank Santoro, who had threatened to kidnap Basciano’s son.

The Daily News reports that Cicale told the judge there’s not a single day he doesn’t “pray for the souls of my victims.”

Cicale will be placed in the witness protection program upon his release, which could happen in under two years after good-behavior time is allocated.
