Excellence is the standard, not the goal, at St. Bernadette School. Twenty-six members of the Class of 2011 were awarded more than $383,000 in academic scholarships, school officials said.

St. Bernadette’s state test scores exceed the state and city average in Grades 4, 6 and 8 ELA and Math. (The most recent state and standardized test results will be available during the school’s upcoming Open House.)

In October 2008, St. Bernadette School was named an NCLB National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, a title it has held for five years. St. Bernadette School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges.

Principal Sr. Joan DiRienzo, MPF, was named one of 12 National Catholic Education Association Distinguished Principals in the country in April 2009. This past year, fourth-grade teacher Roberta Meringolo has been named one of 12 NCEA Distinguished Teachers in the country, school officials said, the second teacher at St. Bernadette to receive such an honor in the past 10 years.

St. Bernadette School has a strong Catholic identity, celebrating liturgies once monthly and participating in Eucharistic Devotions. Students take part in para-liturgical services regularly. A variety of Christian service projects develop, annually providing the students with opportunities to put their faith into practice.

Saint Bernadette School offers an integrated, standards-based curriculum, which is composed of the major disciplines of religion, English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Regularly scheduled classes, staffed by specialized teachers in educational technology, Italian, art, music and physical education, add an essential dimension to student life, school officials said.
Classroom teachers provide a solid core curriculum, individualizing their instruction to meet the abilities and learning styles of their students. St. Bernadette School also offers a host of extracurricular activities.
