The appetizing scent of freshly grilled meats filled the airlast weekend as area residents thronged to the Greek festival atHoly Cross Orthodox Church at Ridge Boulevard and 85th Street.

Patient festival-goers lined up for plates of souvlaki, spanakopita, moussaka and dolmades as a whole lamb turned on a spitnearby, gobbling up the savory goodies before heading inside forplates of fresh baked goods, including honey-drenched baklava andbuttery kourabiedes.

Outside, children clamored for a turn on the superheroinflatable slide or on one of the carnival rides that were put upon Ridge Boulevard for the weekend, as their parents relaxed andlistened to music that transported them thousands of miles away tothe land of Homer’s wine dark sea.
