Police Beat: 68nd and 72nd Precinct

68TH PRECINCT

In the 68th Precinct, which covers Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights andFort Hamilton, three grand larcenies, one robbery and one burglarywere reported between August 7 and August 14, indicating a decreasein grand larcenies and an additional burglary since last week’sreports.

CAR ACCIDENT

A two-car collision at Colonial Road and 77th Street left oneperson injured and two cars damaged shortly before 5 p.m. onThursday, August 11, according to police and witnesses at thescene.

The crash occurred when a Pontiac Aztec SUV and a Toyota Corollacollided at the intersection, sending the Toyota moving head-oninto a lamppost. Police and emergency services were on the scene inminutes and one victim was rushed to the hospital.

STALLED CAR

Another set of four wheel rims and tires were stolen in Bay Ridgelast week, this time on Sunday, August 7, from a car parked onColonial Road between 76th Street and Bay Ridge Parkway, saidpolice.

SECURITY-LESS

An 81-year-old woman was shopping at Walgreens at 13th Avenue and70th Street when someone pilfered her wallet from her purse, policesaid.

She soon discovered that $214 in purchases had been made on hercredit card, but unfortunately, that wasn’t the end of it. Thebrazen thief then mailed the wallet and its contents back to her,police said, sans her Social Security card.

FIT TO BE TIED

A 44-year-old employee at Dolphin Fitness on Fourth Avenue and 87thStreet found himself on the wrong end of a silver handgun lastSunday morning, August 14, when two men walked in and demanded thathe get on the floor, said police.

The victim was then allegedly herded into a back office to access asafe, from which the thieves are said to have taken two envelopeswith around $1,000 in cash and receipts before fleeing in anunknown direction. Video surveillance from a nearby business isbeing reviewed.

The first suspect is described as a black male, 5’7, with a darkand tan complexion, wearing a blue hat and blue sweatshirt. Thesecond suspect is described as a black male, 5’9, with a dark andtan complexion, wearing a green sweatshirt.

UNHOLY VISIT

A 32-year-old woman was praying inside the Masjid Al Rahman mosqueat 86th Street and Third Avenue when she spotted someone take herbag from beside her, then flee through the men’s section and thenin an unknown direction, said police.

Surveillance video was available and is being reviewed. Stolen wereher wallet, credit cards, cash, keys, cell phone and a Koran.

ICE COLD

A 50-year-old food distribution employee told police that someonestole a red cooler bag and over $2,000 in cash and checks from hiscompany car while he made a delivery at 66th Street and 13thAvenue. Police are reviewing surveillance video.

72ND PRECINCT

Between Thursday, August 4, and Tuesday, August 9, one burglary,two grand larcenies, one auto theft and one incidence of criminalmischief were reported in the 72nd Precinct, which covers SunsetPark, Greenwood Heights and Windsor Terrace. This marks a decreasein overall crime, include larcenies, compared to last week (July 29to August 2).

FULLY LOADED AUTO

A Jeep was stolen from its parking space near the southwest cornerof Prospect Park and Windsor Place on Sunday, August 7, along withthe 51-year-old owner’s purse, ID cards and cash, police said.

PULL OF GRAVITY

A 15-year-old teen was arrested for stealing an iPhone from a womanwalking along Prospect Avenue near Windsor Place early Tuesday,August 9, said police.

While recovering the phone, officers also discovered that the teenwas in possession of a gravity knife, which opens when twisted.
