Downtown Brooklyn’s Nu Hotel, at Smith Street and Atlantic Avenue in Boerum Hill, has officially launched its brand new bar and event space plus outdoor cafe.

A spokesperson for the relatively new hotel — it opened in 2008 — told the Eagle the sidewalk cafe is one of the largest in Downtown Brooklyn.

The celebration took place on Friday, Aug. 17, to great fanfare, which included DJ Winter Santos and her “mix of deep house and lounge eclectic music,” and also featured an open bar sponsored by Brooklyn Brewery.

Named Misdemeanor Lounge, the “progressive blueprint” for the bar was created by Riscala Agnese Design Group, a Manhattan-based team of designers and architects who focus on creating “superb dining environments.” according to the website.

It is the same team responsible for the unique look of two well-known eateries, Johnny Utah’s in Rockefeller Center and Triumph Brewery in Philadelphia.

Matching the originality of the decor, the hotel has also created a menu featuring original creations by two of the city’s food and beverage stars: Milos Zica of Employees Only, the mixologist, and Chef Jahengir Mehta of the Graffiti and Mehtaphor restaurants.

Although drinks, music and people watching were highlights at the opening, a seasonally-rotating cocktail and tapas menu are now available for lunch and dinner year-round.

(Insider tip: “They serve great pork belly buns.”)
