The issue of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle for June 8, 1900, reported that “Chinese Minister Wu” (no further title or first name given) planned to make an address at the Brooklyn Union League Club’s Lincoln Dinner. Union League clubs were founded after the Civil War as organizations for veterans of the Union Army.

Well-known people who were born today include former first lady Barbara Bush, cartoonist Scott Adams (“Dilbert”), Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-Arizona), comedienne Joan Rivers, Brooklyn-born comedian and actor Jerry Stiller (“Seinfeld,” “The King of Queens”) and actor Keenen Ivory Wayans (“In Living Color”).

This morning at 11 a.m. at Fairway, 480-500 Van Brunt St., Red Hook, Patricia Bragg, health food crusader, will promote her “Bragg Health Library” of books that promote a healthier lifestyle. ... Tomorrow at 7 p.m., Friends of New Utrecht will present a concert by the Broken Reed Saxophone Quintet, a Brooklyn-based jazz group, at the parish house of the New Utrecht Reformed Church, 84th Street and 18th Avenue, Bensonhurst. ... On Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m., Francis Morrone, director of the Cobble Hill History Project, will hold a walking tour of Cobble Hill history and architecture.
