The New York State Bar Association announced new section chairs. Brooklyn Law School Alumnus Howard S. Shafer has been selected to chair the 1,705-member Corporate Counsel Section of the New York State Bar Association. Shafer is the managing partner of the Manhattan firm Shafer Glazer and the president and general counsel of Counsel Holdings, Inc.

Other new chairs include Eric J. Stock, Esq., chair of the Antitrust Section; Diana L. Wollman, Esq., chair of the Tax Law Section; Robert F. McCarthy, Esq., chair of the Torts, Insurance and Compensation Law Section; Elizabeth M. Hech, Esq., chair of the Trial Lawyers Section; and Carl T. Baker, Esq., chair of the Trusts and Estates Section.

There are 25 sections of the State Bar. Each section publishes materials dealing with their fields of expertise, much of which is not available through commercial publishers. They also sponsor conferences, seminars and institutes, monitor legislation and conduct studies. Each section contributes to policy-making, both in subject areas and association-wide.
