More than $100,000 in solar equipment donated to power vehicles and equipment has been stolen from the

Pier 1 area of Brooklyn Bridge Park, according to the New York Post.

The equipment includes 24 solar panels and 30 storage-cell batteries, and was donated to the park by
Beautiful Earth Group, a Red Hook-based energy company. It was used to power the park’s fleet of electric
vehicles, and administrators hoped to use it soon to power park-goers’ cell phones and laptops, said the
Post.

Park officials reported the equipment stolen on Feb. 19. They were reportedly planning to move the
equipment to the Pier 6 section of the park, near Atlantic Avenue.

Police said the burglar apparently used a truck and ladder to steal the equipment. Park workers will now
have to use electricity from the park’s buildings to power their vehicles.
