A team of chemistry professors is asking Brooklyn residents to send them baggies filled with dirt from areas inundated with floodwater during Superstorm Sandy.

The goal of the project -- called Send Us your Dirt from Sandy, or SUDS -- is to determine how contaminated the soil actually is, researcher Alison Spodek Keimowitz told the Brooklyn Paper.

If the soil is contaminated, the team will notify the Environmental Protection Agency.

So far, the researchers have received about 70 samples from Brooklyn neighborhoods including Gowanus, Red Hook and Gerritsen Beach, along with other parts of the city.
