CROWN HEIGHTS — A CHABAD SPOKESPERSON POSTED ON X that an incident involving a car being rammed into the organization’s Crown Heights building appears to be intentional.
Writing late Wednesday night, Rabbi Motti Seligson, director of public relations for Chabad-Lubavitch headquarters, stated, “Earlier tonight a car crashed into a side entrance at Chabad HQ at 770 Eastern Parkway, the building encompasses one of the most important synagogues in the world. From video and witness accounts it seems to have been intentional. There are no injuries, thank G-d.
“‘770’ is perhaps the most replicated building in the world because of the light, joy, Torah and a confident Judaism that emanates from it to all corners of the world. The driver was taken into custody by the police almost immediately. Motivations unclear.”
Seligson, in a separate post around midnight Wednesday, reported “This individual, according to reports, has attempted to enter various Jewish institutions in NJ, including Chabad, but was rebuffed and in at least one incident the police were called.”
Another rabbi reported on X that his son had been in the building at the time but was able to lock himself and friends in the kitchen. They eventually evacuated the building.
