
CITYWIDE — GOV. KATHY HOCHUL on Thursday asked residents to set their air conditioning to 75-78 degrees and avoid unnecessary appliance use as the heat wave rolls on. State officials have met with Consolidated Edison, New York Independent System Operator and New York City leaders “to ensure all large consumers able to switch to other fuel sources have done so to reduce their usage,” she said.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani also asked businesses to set their thermostats to 78.
Roughly 240 Brooklyn Con-Ed customers were without electricity around 4 p.m. Thursday, while 5,040 lost power in Queens, according to the Con-Ed outage map. About 145 customers went dark in Manhattan’s West Village, while more than 3,200 had no power in the Bronx and Westchester combined. Con-Ed reduced power by 8% in parts of the Bronx, and shut off power in Riverdale, to protect equipment and maintain service as crews make repairs.
