CONEY ISLAND — EIGHT PEOPLE WERE shot and injured, including four children and a 21-year-old woman who is in critical condition, on July 4.
At around 10:35 p.m., the New York Police Department received multiple 911 calls reporting the shooting outside of a residential building about a block from the Coney Island Boardwalk. According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, a TEC-9-style firearm equipped with an extended magazine and 10 used shell casings were recovered near the scene. She also mentioned at the press briefing that the crime could be gang related.
Four adults were injured, including the young woman in critical condition who was shot in the chest, and four children were also wounded. The victims were taken to nearby hospitals and seven victims, including all the children, are expected to survive, Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced Sunday.
No arrests have been made.
