As many as 6,000 students and faculty have evacuated Brooklyn Technical High School in Fort Greene following a bomb threat this morning.
Police told the Brooklyn Eagle that the school received an e-mail containing a threat and reported it to authorities at around 8:15 a.m.
“Out of an abundance of caution, we’re just making sure there’s nothing dangerous inside of the school,” a police spokesperson said. “Once it’s clear we’ll be letting school students and employees back into the building.”
Students and faculty are relocated to the Long Island University campus at 1 University Plaza, according to Notify NYC.
Brooklyn Tech High School, at 29 Fort Greene Place, has more than 6,000 students and approximately 300 staffers, according to the Department of Education. It has the largest student body of any school in New York City.
Streets around the school were closed to facilitate the evacuation.
Police said they’re still investigating the incident, and were unable to share additional details.
