DYKER HEIGHTS — A TEENAGE BOY, 16, was arrested after allegedly stabbing one man to death and critically injuring another at Dyker Beach Park June 27.
Police charged the teen with murder, attempted murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Police said that two men, 21 and 30, were stabbed at the park on 14th Avenue and 86th Street at 1:50 p.m.
Manuel Estanislao Chox Choc, 21, was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The other man was also taken to the hospital and listed in critical condition. Police told the New York Post that the fight was between rival gangs.
“These heinous violent acts allegedly committed by gang members have no place in civil society,” said Councilmember David Carr on Facebook. “We need a comprehensive plan to address gang violence so that the tragedy that took the life of young Manuel and caused serious injuries to another never happens again.”
“A lot of neighbors started reaching out to me,” State Sen. Steve Chan said. “This is an ongoing issue. Although this is not particularly in District 17, I know a lot of people from this district use our park. I can see the lack of lights in the park. I’m going to speak to the Parks Department and the Police Department regarding this park and see if we can come up with a safety plan — a better one than in the past.”
