BATH BEACH/BENSONHURST — A COMMUNITY CLEANUP that was twice postponed this month for rainy weather may finally happen now that the forecast for this Saturday shows sunshine.
Assemblymember William Colton and Councilmember Susan Zhuang, whose districts overlap in much of southwestern Brooklyn, organize the cleanups every summer and fall. Rain on two consecutive Saturdays pre-empted their July cleanup. This time, the Weather Channel app shows abundant sunshine for Saturday, which is the new date for the cleanup. Volunteers will have milder temperatures, with an 82 degree high.
Volunteers will meet up at 11 a.m. at 29 Bay 25th St. and fan out from there, armed with brooms, shovels and trash bags. They will tidy up an area encompassing 18th Avenue between Benson Avenue and 82nd Street; Bay Parkway from 86th Street to Kings Highway; and 86th Street between 21st Avenue and 78th Street.
Colton reports that 25 or 30 intrepid volunteers showed up last weekend even with inclement weather with the goal of sprucing up the area’s shopping strips and Seth Low Park.
