Two brothers arrested with stolen car after police pursuit

Two young brothers were arrested on Sunday morning after leading police on a chase in a stolen car from Coney Island and onto the Belt Parkway. They were caught after an on-foot chase in Bath Beach.
The two were identified as Tafari James, 22, and his brother Tiereek, 19, both of Coney Island, police said.
The chase began at about 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, when a patrol car spotted the 2018 Audi weaving in and out of traffic on Neptune Avenue. Upon checking the Florida plate, the officers discovered the vehicle was stolen. They followed the vehicle from several cars away while alerting other officers to intercept the Audi’s path.
After getting on the westbound Belt Parkway, the vehicle struck an unknown object and traveled several hundred yards before coming to a stop on the grass near Bay 49th Street. The two brothers allegedly jumped a fence and began running through Bath Beach with police in hot pursuit.

“I was just sitting here in my vehicle, and I saw the two guys jump over the fence,” said an MTA employee on break. “They looked like they had a hard time after they jumped the fence because they seemed to be moving pretty slowly. I knew something had happened.”
Officers caught up to the pair on Bay 46th Street and Cropsey Avenue, where they were tackled and then taken into custody.
Tiereek James was charged with grand larceny, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of stolen property and petty larceny.
His brother Tafari was charged with reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, criminal possession of stolen property, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana, operation of an unregistered, uninsured motor vehicle, uninspected motor vehicle, passing a red light, unsafe passing, leaving the scene of an accident, unsafe signaling, imprudent speeding and seatbelt violations, according to police officials.
Authorities did not say where the vehicle was stolen from.
