CITYWIDE — TRASH, CURBSIDE COMPOSTING AND RECYCLING are suspended on Friday, June 19, for the Juneteenth holiday, the New York City Department of Sanitation announced on Wednesday.
Residents whose collection days are Fridays should instead place their material at the curb Friday evening for collection beginning Saturday, June 20. As collection delays may occur after a holiday, the DSNY asks for residents’ patience as the agency works through any backlog of material.
Juneteenth, which is a public school, city, state and federal holiday, commemorates the formal end of slavery, and the enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation on June 19, 1865. It has been observed as a holiday since 2021.
