STATEWIDE – PROGRESSIVE NEW YORK City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is endorsing moderate Governor Kathy Hochul in this year’s gubernatorial election, reports USA Today, returning the favor after Hochul endorsed him in the city’s mayoral race last year.
Mamdani in an essay described Hochul as a leader who governs in the spirit of transformation, and offered a recent agreement between himself and the governor on childcare funding as an example of her ability to bridge political divides. The mayor also said he hopes to continue working with her in future on several proposals that would need state-level support.
The choice is a blow to Hochul’s longshot competitor Antonio Delgado, her current lieutenant governor, who has been attempting to mount a primary challenge from the left in hopes of replicating Mamdani’s own surprise upset of the city’s Democratic establishment.
