The City Council has passed legislation authored by Brooklyn Councilmember Chaim Deutsch that allows New York motorists easy access to their accident reports online.
Deutsch stated, “This vote was a victory for any New York motorist involved in a collision, who will be saved from wasted time and aggravation.”
Previously, drivers had to appear at the station house in the precinct where the collision occurred to obtain the accident report for insurance claims, which could be time-consuming. For security, the Collision Report Retrieval Portal requires the license plate number, driver’s license ID number and date of the accident before login. A pin code, which is sent to the provided email, is required for access.
Once access is attained, printing is only a few simple clicks away.
