CITYWIDE — NOTORIOUS RAPPER P. DIDDY COMBS SHOULD BE DETAINED, said federal prosecutors on Tuesday morning, Sept. 17, following the controversial entertainer’s arrest and a grand jury indictment. Arrested on Monday night in his hotel lobby, Combs faced a series of serious allegations, including lawsuits from multiple individuals who claimed Diddy assaulted them. The most high-profile case came from his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, who has alleged that Combs assaulted her multiple times, coerced her into engaging in sexual acts with male prostitutes and of raping her. She also claimed that Combs threatened to blow up Kid Cudi’s car when she briefly dated the rapper in 2012. These claims were settled out of court swiftly and culminated in a settlement.
Music producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones filed a lawsuit in February accusing Combs of sexually assaulting him and pressuring him to engage with sex workers. Speaking through his legal team, Combs has denied all allegations, calling the claims fictional. The prosecutors’ detention memo alleges that Combs repeatedly engaged in violence towards his employees and others, the Associated Press reported on Tuesday. Combs’ lawyers want him released and sent a letter to U.S. Magistrate Judge Robyn Tarnofsky, itemizing points to prove that he isn’t a flight risk.
A year ago this week, Mayor Adams presented Combs with a key to New York City during a ceremony at Times Square. In June, he asked the rapper to surrender that key following the allegations from Cassie Ventura.
